Nature’s Laboratory Eco Commitment

20 July 2023

Last month on June 5th, we celebrated World Environment Day. The theme for the day focussed on solutions to plastic pollution under the campaign #BeatPlasticPollution. The world is being inundated by plastic. More than 400 million tonnes of plastic is produced every year, half of which is designed to be used only once.

This year at Nature’s Laboratory we are committing to removing all plastic from shipping packaging – getting rid of bubble wrap, and plastic-based tape for product packaging and in addition to this we are using biodegradable packing chips.

Our mission is to be as environmentally friendly as possible, and with this in mind our electricity is supplied from a company which sources renewable, green energy. We are also offsetting our carbon footprint with Ecologi.

Working with Ecologi

Ecologi is a social enterprise with a mission to half the world’s emissions by 2040, and part of their efforts to achieve this is to help businesses and individuals to improve their impact on the world’s climate through initiatives such as planting trees and funding sustainable projects around the world.

Here at Nature’s Laboratory, we pay an amount per month based on our staff numbers which Ecologi invests in tree planting and sustainable energy sources. Have a look here to see what our environmental impact has been so far.

At the time of writing, we had funded 2775 trees & supported the prevention of 195.28 tCO2e from being emitted through 53 verified carbon avoidance projects, such as wind power projects in Mexico and Thailand, generating clean hydro- powered electricity in India and preserving Amazonian rainforest in Brazil.

Supporting The Dispensary

We also support The Dispensary, a local not for profit community health initiative which includes a health shop, community bakery and community library. It’s a place to get good food and herbal medicines & remedies and also where the community can get together to learn about & discuss topics such as the health & climate crisis, herbal & bee medicines and take part in events such as sound meditations. The Dispensary is also committed to being as environmentally responsible as possible. Playing its part in the global push to reduce plastic pollution, it stocks shampoo & conditioner bars as an alternative to plastic bottles & also offers a refill service of many household products along with some skin and haircare products – encouraging people to refill their empty bottles rather than buy new ones. Wherever possible it stocks Local, Organic, Vegan or Vegetarian & sources Ethically, striving continually to improve the health of the planet and the health & welfare of both animals and humans.

Every little bit helps in the huge task to look after the health of our world, and no effort is too small.
